Ha Long Bay, located in Quang Ninh Province, is one of the most recognizable travel destinations of Vietnam. The Bay boasts thousands of limestone karsts and islets in various shapes and sizes with the most famous ones being Fighting Cocks Islet, Stone Dog Islet, and Incense Burner Islet. For many tourists, Halong is a must-see when they visit Vietnam.
Driving from Hanoi to Halong Bay will take roughly 2.5 hours so it is possible to arrange either a 1-day or multiple-day trip to Halong from Hanoi. Halong City is planning to build its own airport to welcome more guests and shorten the travel time.
Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island are of a larger zone which shares a similar geological, geographical, geomorphological, climate and cultural characters. There are multiple tours that travel around the area visiting both Halong - Cat Ba Island. Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism listed Ha Long Bay as a 'Renowned National Landscape Monument'. It was also recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 and in 2012, New 7 Wonders Foundation officially named Halong Bay as one of New Seven Natural Wonders of the world.
